Information for Students

You can make a 50 min. appointment in-person or online.

  • For Online sessions, you meet in real time over the internet. Login to uic.mywconline.com, click your appointment, and then “JOIN ONLINE SESSION."
  • For In-person sessions, you meet with your tutor in 105 Grant Hall. See our current hours here.
  • We also offer Drop-in tutoring every Tuesday through Thursday from 11:30am-1:30pm in Grant Hall 106. Drop-in tutoring is an open time and space for any writer who needs guidance--a good option when 1:1 sessions are not available, you have a quick question, or you'd like a quiet space to work alongside other writers. Tutors leading drop-in sessions may be tutoring multiple students at once, so please expect to work with the drop-in tutors for about 15 minutes. As with all tutoring, tutors will advise and support your efforts, but any changes in your writing need to be made with your participation.
  • We have a limited number of appointments by Email.  For Email tutoring, when you make the appointment, you will need to attach writing for the tutor to look at (up to 3 double-spaced pp. per appt.), along with your writing prompt, and your feedback priorities. Feedback on your writing will be sent to you by 8 pm on the day your appointment is scheduled. These sessions are particularly helpful for writing assignments for which you don't also have an instructor's feedback, like personal statements.
  • After your visit, by end of day, you'll receive a Writing Center Report email summing up what you and the tutor worked on together--if any instructors need to know you came, you are welcome to forward to them!
  • Please see our Code of Conduct here.

The tutor made it clear that their main focus was to help with my concerns as well as point out some of my strengths. This really encouraged me or motivated me into just keep on using those strengths in order to surpass my weaknesses. I really felt that my tutor did know what they were talking about instead of just giving me random and basic information that is just given to any other student that needs feedback for their paper.
